Munnabhai aka Sonja Dutt’s is now a free man. He has
been released from Pune’s Yerwada Jail. His release is not a carnival for just
his close family and friends but also the press. He is making headlines from
the moment of his release. Infact a well worked plan is laid out by his public
relation team, who have not left a single stone unturned to give detailed
information to the press.
The plan mentioned Dutt’s schedule right from moving out of Yerwada Jail to reaching his home in Pali Hill.. Here is what it said , “Sanjay Dutt will be released by 7 am from Pune’s Yerwada Jail. Around 11 am, he will land in Mumbai by charter flight. Mr Dutt will first visit Mumbai's Siddhivinayak Temple to offer prayers. From there, he will head to his mother Nargis Dutt's grave in Marine Lines. Later he will move to his home ‘ Imperial Heights’ located in Pali Hill, freshen up and then talk to the press. Till then the press would only get visuals of Sanjay Dutt.”
Certain section of society is criticizing press for giving undue coverage to the actor. On the basis on anonymity, a media person commented, “ I am watching tv and listening to radio since morning, it’s flooded with news about Sanjay Dutt. Looks like media is rejoicing his release but we cannot forget that he was in jail for a crime that he committed, for keeping unauthorized weapon which killed 257 people in 1993 blast. He has not done any sacrifice for the country. I am not asking to criticise but only requesting to not promote him as a warrior coming back after a victory. At the end stardom is not bigger than patriotism.”
This morning Sanjay Dutt after release kissed the ground, saluted the prison and started his walk towards freedom. Huge crowd welcomed him which included his fans, family and few friends. Also outside Sanjay Dutt’s home there are welcoming posters espially of his films like Munnabhai and Khalnayak calling for a big celebration.ec
But just yesterday a petition is filed in Bombay High Court challenging Mr Dutt’s early release, claiming that the actor has got preferential treatment in his course in jail.
Course of Events:-
In 2007: Sanjay Dutt was found guilty of illegal possession of an AK-56 rifle and a pistol acquired from those involved in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai that killed 257 people and injured hundreds.
Sanjay Dutt served 18 months but then was out on bail
In 2013 he was sentenced to five years imprisonment and was later transferred to Pune’s Yerawada Central Jail for serving the remaining prison term of 42 months.
